Join Sean Colins for an in-depth discussion in this video Network readiness, part of macOS Server Essential Training.
- For this class, we are using an…Apple AirPort Extreme base station as a router.…The AirPort Extreme is great for home use…and fantastic for testing,…but it's not for use in enterprise networks…or on a large scale.…So keep that in mind.…The AirPort Extreme is helpful as a test unit…because it has very easy to use admin tools.…The AirPort Utility works on both Mac OS and iOS.…You can easily set up port forwarding…and security settings which makes it just great for testing.…Now on our AirPort Extreme base station,…we have a static IP address.…
A static, publicly addressable IP address…which is configured on the WAN port…and we have enabled NAT and port forwarding.…During the course, we will turn off DHCP,…and we'll turn it back on again.…And we will make changes…to the AirPort's port forwarding configuration…to make various services and exercises work.…When I make changes to mine,…I will advise you to make changes…in your own test environment…so you can successfully complete each exercise.…I suggest that you use a similar setup…

12/24/2015Sean Colins, Apple Certified Trainer and owner of CoreQuick, an Apple Professional Services for Education provider, explains how to set up OS X Server's most requested services. He starts with the fundamentals of server administration—that apply to any kind of server—and then looks deeply into server setup, network configuration, file sharing, and caching. Sean also shows how Apple provides a fully functional reference system on which to learn mobile device management with Profile Manager, giving you the power to manage Apple devices by centrally controlling their settings and deploying apps with device-based MDM enrollment. Since collaboration and communication are key features of OS X Server, Sean covers setting up your own email server, collaboration wikis, and even website hosting for Dreamweaver and HTML5 designers. The course concludes with a chapter on OS X Server security and backup procedures to ensure all your hard work is safely secured.
