From the course: Learning Nagios
Welcome
- [Josh] Nagios is a powerful monitoring and learning tool that's been an industry standard for years. It gives you a simple, birds-eye view of your infrastructure state via a web-based interface. Nagios offers flexible and timely alerting when things go wrong and enables you to detect problems before they become emergencies by giving you a window into things like CPU load of your remote systems. Hi, I'm Josh Samuelson. I started using Nagios over 10 years ago to monitor mission-critical customer facing systems. When I was learning Nagios, I wished there was a simple explanation of how it worked and how to get started. But, I had to figure it out for myself. I hope this course will give you the resource that I needed back then. We'll cover the basic concepts behind Nagios, how to work with the Nagios configuration language, and how to work with Nagios add-ons and plugins. We'll set up a small sandbox network and configure some alerts between those servers. Finally, we'll look at how to integrate Nagios with PagerDuty so that you can manage your on-call schedule and escalations easily, and get alerts reliably with their mobile app.
