Once upon a time, firewalls were just perimeter devices that allowed only specified traffic to flow in and out of a network. Then they evolved, replicated, and were placed on individual devices within a network. Each of these methods of using a firewall has management and therefore security disadvantages. You will see how the distributed firewall addresses these issues and provides for microsegmentation of security.
