- Welcome to Up and Running with VMware NSX. I'm Bill Ferguson and I'm looking forward to sharing these important concepts with you. I'll start off by defining what a Software-Defined Data Center is and how and how a software-defined network is an essential component. Then, I'll discuss how NSX can fill the role of the software-defined network for many organizations and how they can leverage what they already have and build on to it to create their own software-defined network.
Next, I'll discuss the components that make up NSX, such as, the controller cluster, host with VX lan, logical switches, and distributed logical routers, and the advantages that you realize from using these software components instead of traditional networking with purely physical network devices. Finally, I'll discuss expanding the network with routing, network address translation, load balancing, and even virtual private networks.
