Looking for an alternative build tool? Try npm, the node package manager. Learn how to create npm scripts to automate all sorts of build tasks.
- [Ray] Hi there, this is Ray Villalobos, senior staff author, and I wanna welcome you to Tooling with NPM Scripts. NPM, the Node Package Manager, is becoming a popular option for taking care of common development and production tasks. Tasks like creating service, compressing your code, and minifying images. In this course, I'll walk you through creating these tasks using the Node Package Manager and its configuration file, the package.json file. I'll cover the advantages and disadvantages of this approach and create tasks that will be important during the development phase of your projects, as well as a build task that you can use when you're ready to publish the project to the web.
Now even if you don't plan to use npm scripts as a part of your workflow, so many node.js packages come with npm scripts already installed. So it's really important that you understand how this process works. As usual, there's a lot to learn, so let's get started tooling with npm scripts.
- Creating an npm script
- Managing script types
- Processing Sass
- Transpiling ES6
- Organizing scripts
- Recompressing for production
