This video covers the basic functionality of Lynda.com playlists – what they are, how to add content to them, how to organize them, and how to share them with others.
- [Instructor] As you browse through Lynda.com you'll probably come across tons of courses you'd like to watch. You can easily keep track of the content that interests you by adding them to playlists. Playlists let you save and organize the courses you want to watch into categories and lists that make sense to you. And you can also share those playlists with others. Keep in mind, based on the type of membership you have with Lynda.com, your view of the playlists may look a little different than what you see here. In this video, I'll just be going over the basic functionalities of adding courses to playlists, creating new playlists, and organizing personal playlists.
To get started adding content to a playlist, I'll start on my homepage where I can quickly access my playlists from this playlist pod. If you haven't created any playlists yet, this pod will be blank, but once you start to add content to the playlists, this will populate with that material. From here, I can click on any one of the playlists to jump directly to that playlist. Going back to the homepage real quick.
I can also click see all, and that will take me to my playlist page. From here, I can see all of my playlists. I can also get to this playlist page by navigating to my profile menu and selecting playlists. This is the page where you can manage your playlists. Your first playlist will always be the one called My Playlist, and this is a default playlist. It's here to help you get started with playlists. I can either add content into this one or I can create a new one.
I'm going to go ahead and create a new one by clicking create new playlist. I'll title this one. I'll call it Home Office, because I want to create a playlist of content to watch for working in my own personal home office. Adding a description is optional. And then click save. And now, I see I have Home Office listed under my playlists. Because it's brand new, it has a little zero next to it indicating that no courses have been added to this playlist yet.
There are a few different ways that I can start adding content into this playlist. For this particular one, I know I saw a topic in the area of the business library, so I'll go down here to business. This'll take me to the content page where I found Home and Small Office here under the topics. I'll click that and I can browse around. Once I find a course I want to add to my playlist, hover over it, and I'll click this little plus icon here.
Then I can select my playlist from this dropdown menu. Click the plus button. And you'll see these two little checks that indicate this course has been added to my playlist. I'll click it again to close out. And I can continue adding as much content into this playlist as I like. I'll add a couple more here. You'll see this is in another one of my playlists.
When I'm done adding content, I'll go back to viewing my playlist page by going up to my profile and selecting playlists. Now, here under Home Office, you'll see the little number three, indicating that I have three courses added to this playlist. I'll go ahead and click on it. And you see these three courses have appeared here. I can see how far along I've progressed in these courses, which is zero percent as of right now, since I just added them into a brand new playlist.
But once I start watching the content, this bar will fill in with a percentage of progress. I'll also be able to see how much time is remaining in a course. And there's a few other things you can do with this pod. I can change around the order of this playlist. Say I want this course to come first, or if I want this bottom one to move all the way to the top, I'll press this move to top button. Or say I want to remove one of them completely, I can press this remove button here on the far right.
That'll remove it from the playlist. I can easily edit the playlist by clicking this edit button up here next to the title. I can change the title or the description and click save changes when I'm done. If for any reason I want to completely remove the playlist, I can select delete playlist down here at the bottom. Another cool feature is that I can share this playlist by clicking on the share button up here at the top. I'll click on the little email icon.
This'll pop up a window with a preloaded email. I can edit this email if I want. And then I'll just add in the email address to whom I want to send it to. Once the email address is in there, I can click send. I can also click share the link to copy and paste this link into my own email from my own email client. Sharing via social media on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn are also options. If you ever want to stop sharing the playlist, just click the share button again and select stop sharing.
Lynda.com also has playlists curated by our learning experts. You can follow playlists by going to the playlist center here listed at the bottom. And here you can browse by subject, and you can sort these results by newest or oldest or skill level. You can also view this in the default tile mode or the list mode. I'll choose the marketing subject.
And I'm going to click the plus button so I can follow this Understand Content Marketing playlist. Now, going back to my playlists, you'll see under followed playlists I have Understand Content Marketing. I can click on it and see that this is curated by Lynda.com and if for any reason I want to unsubscribe to this, maybe I'm finished watching all of the courses in the playlist, I can just click unsubscribe. If you have an account through your organization, you may also see the section for assigned playlists.
These are curated and assigned by account administrators at your organization. Another thing to note is that your edit control pod will be up here in the top right corner. This is where you'll go to edit playlists, watch playlists, copy them, make them public or share them. Now, going back to the premium view, and going back to the homepage, I'll see that I have all of my playlists listed here and I can click on any one of them to quickly jump to that playlist.
And that's how you can create, edit, manage and quickly locate your playlists.
