Inspecting server performance

- As well as administering individual databases, phpMyAdmin can give you a lot of useful information about the status of your server. I've logged into phpMyAdmin on my remote server, because I think it will give you a more realistic idea of the sorts of information you can expect. You need to be in the Home page of phpMyAdmin and then click the Status tab, it's the third from the left at the top. The default screen displays some basic information about how long the server has been running and the amount of traffic it's handled. So my server has been running for 23 days, 23 hours, and 21 minutes. And this is the amount of traffic it's handled, the total over that time is 42.2 gigabytes, so that's quite a bit. And this is the average per hour, 75.1 megabytes per hour. Under Connections it's worthwhile looking at failed attempts and aborted. If the figure is high or the percentage is high that should set alarm bells ringing. While in my case failed attempts is 0.7% and aborted is 0.1%…
