- [Instructor] Like real-time dynamic changes, real-time tempo changes are expressive and add excitement or drama to music. Let's take a look at how to add tempo text expressions to a score and parts. So as we were just discussing, tempo change markings are typically in bold and larger than other text, and they always go above the staff in a score. If there are other symbols present, like articulation and slurs, they go above that, and they should always align with the left edge of the beat where they start. So let's take a look here. This song starts in moderato. We can see that we've got the tempo text marking here, and it's clearly aligned with the time signature. That's in bold, it's a little bit larger than the other text, and then that's followed by a metronome marking. By the way, in the metronome marking, when you see M.M., that stands for metronome marking, or actually, the inventor of the metronome, Maelzel, so it would be Maelzel's metronome, and that's giving a tempo at…
