"Penny's Farm"
From the course: Banjo Lessons: 1 Fundamentals
"Penny's Farm"
("Penny's Farm") - Well, there's Penny's Farm. This is a wonderful tune that I learned off of a Pete Seeger album, and he didn't play it exactly like this, but I kinda modified it for more of a bluegrass sort of a feel. And it uses the Osborne roll a lot. And let me just play it a little more slowly so you can hear it with a slightly slower tempo. And this tempo I just played it at may be just a hair faster than you need to play it. Try it at this tempo. ("Penny's Farm") So, I'm going to give you a few little exercises that'll just kind of prepare you to play the tune, so you don't just play the tune cold. So, here's the first exercise, and this is not the Osborne roll yet, but this is... (banjo plays a pattern) It's a little pattern where you hit the index on the second string, thumb on the third, index on the second, thumb on the fifth. You can do it twice. (banjo plays a pattern) Or many more times if you want to. With a metronome, always with a metronome. Just keep your timing…
