Minor scales

- [Instructor] While we're brushing up on scales and keys, let's review minor keys and scales as well. This will be useful later, when determining the correct key signature to add to music in a minor key. Just as in a major key, there was a key, C, that didn't have any sharps or flats, there is a minor key, A minor, that has no sharps or flats. Let's use A minor to derive a formula for building minor scales. And let's start by viewing a keyboard. So again we see the white keys of the keyboard, and we've got the letter names of the notes there, and we can see, we're starting this on A below middle C, and going up to the A above. And let's use our knowledge of intervals to determine what the distance is between each note as we go up the scale. And from that, we can develop a formula for a minor scale. So from A to B, there's a black key in between there so we know that that's a whole step. From B to C, there's no black key, so we know that that's a half step. C to D, through a black…
