- [Narrator] The ranges of most pitched instruments are able to fit around a single clef. For example, music for violin or trumpet is notated using the Treble Clef, and Bass Clef is used for instruments that include bass or tuba. But the ranges for instruments like the viola do not easily fit around either Treble or Bass Clef, and instead use a type of clef referred to as a C Clef. So here's an example of a C Clef, and if we look at this carefully we'll notice that there are two backwards C's joined by an arrow, and where that all comes together, it points to a line here that indicates middle C. Now, there are multiple C clefs that we'll take a look at in a second. So you've always got to look to find these two backward C's and then the arrow that's pointing at the line that indicates where middle C is located. So, if we look at this graphic here, we'll see that in the first one, Alto Clef, or Alto C Clef, is pointing at this line in the middle of the staff. We go to Tenor Clef and…
