- Now we get something very simple that a lot of people overlook is just how to get and keep your bass in tune. Basically, you wanna get a decent tuner. Tuning to records or CDs is unreliable sometimes because the guys who played on them may have been out of tune in the first place. So, I basically, in my rack when I play live and at home, I have a little digital tuner, this is a Korg here. It's plugged into the bass, when I hit a G note, the G lights up and it tells me it's a little bit sharp, so I can basically get it right in the middle there, and you're in tune. The same with the D, little sharp again, the A, right in there, pretty close. Now tuning sometimes is more of an art than a science. You'll notice the bass if I turn it this way, the G will go flat, if I play that G note and turn it this way the G will go sharp. It did, just like I said it. Because the weight of the neck pulls it a little sharp or a little bit flat. Depending on the bass, some do it more than others. Mine…
