Break down a lick into parts
- Now I show you some patterns, with the half step, whole step, et cetera, et cetera. Rewind and look at those again if you want. But here are some exercises that are gonna help your hands execute, to be able to play all those things. Basically, anytime you see your fingers doing anything, you can break that move down to component parts. So if I'm going, (quickly playing bass strings) lets break that down to component parts. Basically I'm playing. (slowly playing bass strings) So, what we have there is we have, (plays rhythm) this move here, which is not easy to do. We have, (plays rhythm) that move there. This move here. (plays rhythm) Those are all contained in what I just played. So break it down, and just exercise just those moves. Across the neck, like for example, (plays strings) Now that's starting with the index finger. Lets start with the middle finger. (plays lower strings) With a two breadth spacing.
