- [Voiceover] Trademark registration. In a previous video I talked about choosing a name that could function as a trademark. In this video I'll discuss how to register that trademark. Why do the owners of many popular podcasts apply for federal trademark registration? Because it creates a legal presumption that they are the owners of the name, a big advantage in the event of a dispute, and it gives them exclusive rights to the name for podcasting purposes. It also gives them the right to put an R in a circle after the name. On the other hand, there are reasons why federal registration may not be right for you, at least not now. It can be expensive. The filing fees range from $225 to $325 if filing online. It can be a hassle. Some people find the application process confusing, and it can be unpredictable.
