- [Voiceover] Rules for all podcast disputes. Here are some legal rules that may apply for all content disputes. As I've indicated before, most lawsuits are driven by money. If you work for a corporate client or you have substantial assets, you're more likely to be a lawsuit target than if you're struggling to make ends meet and podcasting from your bedroom. For example, a patent owner sued various podcasters for patent infringement in 2014 and demanded a cut of the podcasters' revenues. A few weeks later, the patent owner dismissed all the lawsuits once he realized the podcasters didn't earn enough money to make the litigation worth his while. Companies have feelings too. Most of the legal claims I've described in the previous videos apply to companies, as well as to individuals. For example, companies can be defamed and they can sue you for divulging trade secrets and infringing intellectual property. Don't count on Section 230.
