- Okay, we've talked about managers and agents. Let's talk about concert promoters. A concert promoter's job is to hire an artist to perform a show at a designated venue on a specific date and time, and to sell tickets to that show. That's what they do. If all goes well, those ticket sales will cover all the cost of putting on that show, the cost of the artist, and hopefully there will be some money left over for the promoter to put in their pocket. Those promoters pay all the expenses of a show from start to finish. The rental fee for the venue, the folks working in the parking lot when you drive in, the folks serving your hot dog and beer at the gig, the police and security guards that keep things safe, that ambulance that's waiting when things go wrong, the stage hands that load the gear in and load it out at the end of the night, all of the advertising it takes to make sure everybody knows that show is happening. And finally, they pay the artists that are performing that night…
