How to get a deal
- Once you decide that you want to make a publishing deal, then you're gonna need to connect with a publisher. Let's talk about how to approach those publishers. First off, if you have an experienced manager or lawyer, they will likely be making the calls, and they should know exactly what to do. If that's not the case, here are some things that you can do. Music publishers are no different than all the other professionals you're looking to connect with in the music business. First and foremost, they count on their trusted sources to tip them to promising new artists. Those recommendations can come from other song-writers they've signed, A&R contacts, producers, attorneys, managers, or anybody else whose opinions they value and who they've done business with in the past. In many cases, one of those trusted sources might be a young person at the company, so instead of sending emails and leaving phone calls for the boss, start at the bottom and work your way up.
