When a dollar of publishing income comes in here is how it get splits up. Fifty percent (50%) of that dollar, or 50 cents goes to the writer, guaranteed. That never changes. That is called the “writer share”. The other fifty percent(50%) of that dollar, or 50 cents goes to the music publisher. That is called the “publisher share”. Now here is where things can get tricky. An artist can be both the writer of the song and the music publisher.
