- One of those folks is a gentleman by the name of Tom Kelly. Tom has had an extraordinary career as a songwriter. He's a member of the Songwriter Hall of Fame. he and his writing partner Billy Steinberg have written a bunch of number one hits including Like a Virgin for Madonna, So Emotional for the late Whitney Houston, and one of my personal favorite songs, a song called True Colors sung by Cyndi Lauper. A while back I had an opportunity to speak with Tom on Redman Live and I asked him what he thought the elements of a great song were. Here's what he had to say. Record producer Brendan O'Brien is a friend of mine and he knows a thing or two about hit records, as well. He's a multiple Grammy award winning producer, he's produced 14 number one albums with some of the biggest acts in rock history including Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Bruce Springsteen, ACDC, STP, Aerosmith, and my friends in Incubus.
