- In our first lesson on the big picture we talked a little bit about that idea of getting the money. And when it comes to touring, that's definitely something worth talking about again. So let's talk about how, once you've got that first gig you're gonna get paid. In most cases you're going to be paid a guaranteed fee or a percentage of gross ticket sales, or some combination of both. The bigger your drawing power the more you'll get upfront and the more you'll get on the back end. First you start out playing clubs and you don't have any track record of selling tickets. You're not on the radio, you're not selling lots of records. So you'll likely make nothing and in some cases you might even have to pay to play. But if you're lucky you might get what's known as a piece of the door. And what means is you'll get a percentage of whatever money is collected at the door by the club. So for example, if you're being paid 30% of the door and the show grossed $1,000, you'd make $300. 30%…
