- I think for most artists, if they're being honest, they dream about getting signed to a big record deal, having a bunch of hit singles, and selling tons of albums. For some folks, it actually happens. I'm going to assume now that you've taken all my advice and now you are the one that's finally being offered a record deal. There are so many things to cover in a record deal, it would take weeks to cover them all. That's why it's not uncommon for those record contracts to be 100 pages long. Record contracts have spawned the whole litany of legal jargon and terms to cover every conceivable scenario in a record deal with an artist. In most cases, you need a diagram to keep track of all the lingo and the references to different sections of that contract. So much, that it can actually just drive you crazy.
