Getting smooth playback with RAM preview

Sometimes when you're working in Motion, you'll have a project that's so deep with effects and lights and filters that Motion won't actually be able to play it back in real-time. So, for example, in this project, if we look under the Render pop-up menu, this project is set to the Best setting and Motion Blur as well as Reflection, Shadows and Lights are all selected. So this can be a very intensive process. Let me show you when we press the Play button, you'll notice I'm only getting a 5, 4, a very low frame rate playback.

So in order to compensate for this, let me just stop playback and move my playhead to the beginning. You can go up under the Mark menu and choose RAM Preview. Typically, I'll use the key command, Command+R. That will play only within the play range. Now since the play range of this project is the entire length of the mini-timeline, that would work perfectly fine. Otherwise, you have to use the other key command.
