- [Narrator] Multi-factor authentication is designed to protect the security and integrity of your Office 365 environment by requiring users to provide a second means of proving their identity in certain suspicious situations. Let's suppose for a moment that a user logs on to Office 365 from a different computer than normal. They know their password, but they're using a different machine, and they might even be at a different geographic location than they normally log in from. In that type of situation, Office 365 may recognize that as suspicious behavior and essentially tell the user, "Okay, I know you know your password, but I'm going to need a little bit more proof that you are who you say you are." Now, what type of proof can that user provide? It really kind of varies depending on how multi-factor authentication is set up, but one common example is that because Office 365 knows the user's phone number, they might text them a code using an SMS text message then the user can then…
