- [Instructor] If you're planning on using the Active Directory Federation Services, then one of the first things that you're going to need is a certificate. Now, unfortunately, you're not going to be able to generate this certificate from an enterprise certificate authority. Likewise, you're not going to be able to use a self-signed certificate. And the reason for that is that Microsoft requires you to get a certificate from a widely trusted commercial certificate provider. So one of the problems with that is that when you purchase this type of certificate, typically that certificate is going to be in P7B format, similar to what you see right here. Here you can see my certificate and you can see that it has the P7B extension. Now the reason why that's an issue is because the Active Directory Federation Service requires the certificate to be in PFX format. So we're going to have to perform a conversion.
