Add and configure a domain

- [Instructor] One of the first tasks that you'll typically have to perform after subscribing to Office 365 is adding your domain name to your Office 365 account, so let's do that. I've just logged into Office 365, and what I'm going to do is open the Office admin center, so I'll click up here, and I'll click on admin, then I'll expand this out, I'll go to show all and then I'll go to setup and domains. And you can see that we already have one domain in here, this is the domain that was set up by default when we created our account, but let's add a custom domain. I'm going to use poseytechwriting.com, I'll click add domain, and then I'm prompted to type my domain name, I'll click next, and now I'm taken to a screen that asks me to verify my domain name, and the way that this works, is you're prompted to enter a record into your DNS server. So let's go ahead and do that. The process of creating the DNS entry is going to work a little bit differently depending on where your DNS servers are hosted. So right now I'm logged into the website for the company that I have my domain name registered with, and you can see that I'm in the domain manager right now, and if I scroll down just a little bit, you can see DNS servers, and you can see that I'm configured to use this particular provider's DNS server, and then just beneath that, you can see the host records. So I'm going to go ahead and click edit, and then what I'm going to do now is I'm going to come down to where this at symbol is at, and I'm going to set this record type to text because that's what I was instructed to do. And then I need to provide some text for the text record that I'm creating. So if I switch back over to Office 365, we can see that the text value in this case is MS=ms8129327. Now, one of the convenient things that you can do is hover over this, and just click on it to copy it to the clipboard so that you don't have to retype this and have to worry about making a typo. So I've copied this to my clipboard, now I'm going to switch back over to my domain register, and I'm going to right click on this field and paste this as plain text, and then I'll scroll down and save my changes. So now that I've created the necessary DNS entry, I'm going to switch back over to Microsoft Office 365, and I'm going to verify the existence of that DNS entry. Now this can take a little while, sometimes the change is picked up right away, sometimes it can take up to 24 hours, so we'll see what happens. So I'm back on Office 365, and after clicking verify, I see a message saying that my domain has been verified. So at this point, I'm going to click next, and now I'm asked if I want Microsoft to set up the necessary DNS record for me, or if I want to manage my own DNS records. I'll let Microsoft set this up, you can see that's the recommended course of action. I'll click next, and now I'm asked to add records for my website. I don't have a website associated with this domain name, so I'm just going to click next without entering anything, and so now I'm told that I need to add some records to my domain name. You can see those records right here. So what I'm going to do is switch back over to my registrar, and you can see that right now for DNS servers, this is set to the domain as using our DNS. I need to switch that over to Microsoft's DNS. I'll click edit, and I'll set this to custom DNS, and this is where I paste in those items that you saw on the other screen. So I'm going to pause the video for a moment, and enter those items. So I've typed in the DNS server addresses, I'll click save changes, and I see a message saying that this is going to take about 24 hours, so I'll click okay, and I get a message saying that my main server's have been updated, so I'll switch back over to Microsoft Office 365, and you'll notice that there's a verify button and I'll click that periodically until I receive notification that the verification process is complete. So I clicked verify, and now we can see that my domain name has been added, and I get a message saying that setup is complete. So that's how you add a domain name to Microsoft Office 365.
