Using Levels and Level Filters

- In this chapter we will learn how to use levels in MicroStation. The objective of this chapter is to teach you how to use some of the basic concepts associated with CAD drawing files, and to discover how you can user levels and level symbology to produce flexible drawing files. There are unlimited levels available in MicroStation V8i. Prior to this version there was a limit of 63 levels available in a single design file. To distinguish between multiple drawing elements, element attributes such as color, line style, and line weight were used to separate and define individual components. These components could be existing, new components, annotation, dimensions, any part of the drawing that you want to keep separated from the other parts. It is common to have multiple attributes on a single level because of that 63 level limitation. Many legacy files that you will find today still contain levels using numbers rather than names, and they use a single level for many drawing attributes…
