- Now using the view groups, select the reference file basics. Here we have a blank file and we're going to recreate what we just looked at previously. If I come up to the reference file dialog and select that command, you'll see that I do not have any reference files attached currently. What I need to do is attach the files that I need and then put the border around them and clip it. The first thing I will do is attach my terrain and my survey reference files. Using this dialog box I can either use a right click menu to activate the commands, I can come up and use buttons, or I can come up under tools and get the same commands. You need to use whatever method works for you. I'm a right clicker, so I'm going to right click and pick Attach. The first thing I'm going to attach is the survey file.
