- [Instructor] Continue using the file for Chapter Five, "Placing Basic Geometry". In this exercise, we will look at how to place patterns or hatches in Microstation. All hatches and patterns are referred to as patterns in Microstation. There are several types of patterns available, including hatches, crosshatches and linear patterns. The following command methods are available from the tool settings dialogue for controlling the patterned area. First, element, patterns an element by filling an existing element with a defined hatch or pattern. This does require a closed element. Flood patterns an element by flooding an area, filling an area with the defined pattern and can pattern between multiple elements. Union patterns an area defined by joining element shapes. Intersection patterns an area defined by overlapping element shapes. Difference patterns an area defined by the first element, and uses all other elements as subtraction.
