Join Malcolm Shore for an in-depth discussion in this video An Nmap refresher, part of Penetration Testing Essential Training.
- [Instructor] Let's take a refresher…on using nmap for scanning networks…to discover what hosts are present…and what services are available on those hosts.…I'll be using the nmap tool loaded into kali.…Nmap's primary function is to scan a network…and probe the hosts that it detects…to determine the services running.…It can scan using a number of techniques,…which together can help identify services…which are open to the internet,…that are closed, and those that are open…but behind a security filter of some sort.…
The first thing we'll do is to discover…what hosts are on my test network.…The most straightforward way to do this…is using the -sn option across the subnet.…The -sn option touches each host in turn,…using the ICMP ping protocol…to see whether it responds.…Nmap reports only the hosts that do respond,…providing the IP and MAC address of the host.…Having identified which hosts are responding,…we can probe the TCP and UDP ports…to check what services are being presented.…
Let's check the target on 10.0.2.8,…
Cybersecurity expert Malcolm Shore reviews popular pen testing tools, as well as the Bash and Python scripting skills required to be able to acquire, modify, and re-use exploit code.
