- [Narrator] Even thought you'll probably want to have your printed object on display standing up like this, you can actually print it in any number of different orientations. There's several variables that go into finding the best orientation, and since all models are different, there may not be a best of all worlds approach. Let's examine the various reasons why you might orient the print in different ways. Okay, so we've got our exercise file open, and I'm going to go ahead and just work on the back half only for right now, so hiding the front half. One school of thought behind orienting your model, is to minimize support structures. Supports can be tedious to remove and they can leave little marks and artifacts on your models, so the fewer support structures you use, the better. Concerns about support structures apply to plastic filament and resin based printers, but they do not apply to powder based printers, like SLS, powdered nylon, or full color sandstone on Shapeways, for…
