How does it work?

- Before we get started, let's get acquainted with this type of 3D scanning. Our sensor has two important inputs. First, an infrared sensor that captures depth, and a VGA camera that captures color. If you want to create a full color scan, you'll need both. But if you're planning to print on a desktop printer in one color, the infrared depth scanner will even work in the dark. Now there are two ways to take a scan. You can either move around an object, like you're taking a movie, or you can spin the subject in front of you on a lazy Susan and keep the scanner still. Either method works, and the background doesn't have an impact on your scan. Now there are some size limitations. With the Skanect software the smallest recommended bounding box is 10 centimeters cubed, and the max is 12 meters cubed. If you need to scan something bigger you can take multiple scans and stitch them together, but you'll need software and experience to do this. There are also some limitations on the object…
