- Let's get set up for our scan. In this video, we'll talk about the scanning environment, tools we'll need, and preparing our subject. First, the environment isn't crucial for this type of scanning. But if you're planning on scanning in full color, make sure you're working in good, even lighting. Let's talk strategy for a moment. While you can move around your subject to take a scan, it's typically faster and easier to use the spinning Lazy Susan method. For people who want to make a lot of captures, building a rig for this purpose is a great idea. But for the casual scanner, there's a really easy solution. Find a swivel stool, or a low-backed office chair. It's easy to capture your subject from the waist up, and your volunteer can scoot themselves in a circle so you can capture them from all angles. Now let's prepare our subject. Stray hairs can be hard to scan, whether that's on top of their head or on their face, so smooth out their hair if possible. Also remove eyeglasses as well as any reflective jewelry or accessories that can interfere with the scan. Now we're ready to move on to scanning!
