- [Instructor] Some additive manufacturing methods create objects in a bed of powder. The unused powder acts as a support structure for the powder that ends up being fused into your object. So if you're printing in full color sandstone on Shapeways, for example, or with a laser-centered powder printer, you don't even have to think about supports. However, plastic filament and resin-based prints usually do require supports. That's because without supports, any part of the model that hang over the base would fall over or just not get printed. Let's see how to create supports in Meshmixer. Alright, let's go ahead and do it on the back half that we've already got selected here. And I'm going to go into Analysis and Overhangs. So what this does is it shows us, highlighted in red, all the different parts of the model that could be problem areas that are hanging over. They're probably going to need supports.
