- [Narrator] For this video, I've created a new folder. It's called MC89. It's in the Update Project Files folder. And we're going to work on a project called Source Browser. I'm just going to open that up. This is actually an empty project because we're going to look at some new features in Avid Media Composer 8.9 for the source browser. So, I'm going to go to the Tools menu and I'm going to choose Source Browser, and here we are. First off, I'm going to go to the text view here and I'm go...
Just look at my desktop at these exercise files. And I'm going to look inside our Rock Climber Quicktimes folder. I've got a long list of items in here and I'm going to switch to viewing this in the frame view. In this view, we have a zoom control and I can use the regular keyboard shortcut, that'd be Control L, or Command L on Mac OS, or Control K or Command K, to make these bigger and smaller. But if I just drag through here with the zoom control...
Let me come down from that system file. You can see, I can make these really very big. In fact, if I stretch this up even more you can now get really massive thumbnails. I'm recording this video on a relatively low screen resolution so it's easier for you to view this video on a smaller screen. But on a higher resolution screen, I think you'll really appreciate this new feature. Of course, one problem is, we might run out of space to view the contents within this display.
In fact, you can see, as I hover my mouse over the thumbnail Media Composer's just overlapping the top and bottom of the thumbnail right in front of the interface in order to display the full resolution of the image. You'll notice, we've got a new button at the bottom of this display area, right here, which will expand or contract the area displaying the thumbnails. If I click on this, the controls in the source browser disappear and now I've got a better view of these thumbnails.
You can also click and drag with the mouse. You see I get this double-headed arrow and if I click and drag, you don't really have much finessing here. It really is just big or small, but it's nice to be able to switch the view this way and see the thumbnails more clearly. So those are the two main new features in the source browser ...I'll just shrink this down a little bit... In Avid Media Composer 8.9.
