- [Narrator] I want to start out in this chapter by talking about this group of tools that are collectively referred to as the smart tool. What's smart about this tool is that you get access to all five of these tools, simply depending on where the mouse cursor is in the timeline window. Coincidentally, you might have noticed just now if I select the vin window, for example, that the smart tool doesn't do anything at all on the timeline window until the timeline window is active. And I'm guessing, by now, you've encountered quite a few times, a few limitations in the interface along those lines. It's not you, it's the system, and I suppose in a way, it's allowing Media Composer to restrict your actions to the window that you're currently working in. To show you how powerful the smart tool is, I want to make these tracks a little bit taller. We know already that we can do that using Command or Control + L with our selected tracks and K to make them smaller. But there is another…
