Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Working with edge loops, part of Maya 2015 Essential Training.
…Let's go ahead and refine our models further.…We're going to start by taking a look at edge loops.…Now these are basically just groups of edges that form the detail of your model.…Here I have a simple arm, and edge loops are really these loops of edges.…So if I go into edge mode here, I could…double click on one of these, and you see that…I have edge loops that go around the arm, as…well as edge loops that go from front to back.…Now working with edge loops is a good way to define the outline of your character.…
So there's a couple of simple tools here.…If I double click on an edge, I will get an edge loop.…And if I hit the right or left arrow, I…can actually step up or down in my edge loop.…So you can see I can go all the way to the bicep here.…Or if I right arrow, I can go down to the wrist.…Now there are a number of tools that Maya has for managing…edge loops, and most of those can be found under the mesh tools.…So probably the most important one is insert edge loop.…
So if I select insert edge loop, my cursor changes.…
