Join Jason Baskin for an in-depth discussion in this video What you should know before watching this course, part of Rigging a Quadruped in Maya.
Before getting started with this course, you need to already have some experience working with Maya. Viewport navigation and object manipulation tools should already be familiar to you as well, as a basic conceptual understanding of the rigging process. If you want to get up to speed on any of these subjects, I'd recommend checking out George Maestri's Maya Essentials series, starting with Essentials 1. And working through Essentials 5. You might also have a look at George Maestri's Maya 8.5 Character Rigging course for additional examples of character rigging workflow.
So let's begin building a quadruped rig in Maya.
- Creating the skeleton
- Rigging the head, ears, and front and hind legs
- Working with expressions
- Adding extended twist functionality
- Creating an FK/IK tail
- Making the rig scalable
- Binding the mesh to the skeleton and painting skin
