Rendering realistic glass and transparent surfaces in Arnold can be a challenge. In this video, George shows how to create realistic glass for an automotive rendering application. He shows how to control transparency, reflection, and refraction.
- [George] Hi, I'm George Maestri and today we're going to…take a look at rendering vehicles.…This is things like cars and trucks, and we're going to…focus mostly on materials, and this is going to be…the first part of a couple of installments.…And today we're going to take a look at glass.…We're going to create glass windshields,…and the headlight covers as well as the blinkers…for this automobile.…So let's go ahead and get started.…Now the first thing I want to do…is just see what I have, so I'm going to go ahead…and do a quick IPR render of the scene.…
now we are going to be rendering in Arnold,…so this is an Arnold-specific lesson.…And if we let the IPR complete,…you'll see that, well we really don't have…any materials to speak of on this particular car,…so everything is pretty much a Lambert,…so we're going to have to create the materials from scratch,…so I'm going to go ahead and pause my IPR,…and let's go ahead and create a basic material.…So I'm going to go into my Hypershade,…and let's just go ahead and right-click…
