Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Using the Grease Pencil tool, part of Maya 2015 Essential Training.
…Now let's take a look at one last little tool.…And that's the Grease Pencil tool.…Now, I'm including this up front because it's a…tool that we may be using throughout the course.…But it's something that you'll probably be using mostly for modeling and animation.…Now, what this tool does is allow you to basically…draw in Maya or draw over a scene in Maya.…We can find this on any one of our viewports here.…It's this little icon that looks like a grease pencil…and we click on it and it brings up this menu.…
Now, what it does, is it allows us…to create what are called grease pencil frames.…And those are basically just overlays to our viewport.…So, we start by hitting the plus sign, then when we do that, it adds a frame.…Now, this is kind of an animation thing…here, if we look on our timeline, you'll see…this light blue box here and that tells us…we have a grease pencil frame on frame one.…And then all we have to do is select our tool.…We have a marker, a soft pencil, and a regular pencil.…
And then we can also select whatever color we want for the tool.…
