Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Using Edge Flow to smooth geometry, part of Maya 2015 Essential Training.
…One tool that's very handy when working with edge loops is called edge flow.…Now, this allows you to take an edge that you've either…inserted or created and match it to the curvature of your model.…Now, here I have an arm, but before we do anything on this model, let's…go ahead and just create a very simple…model so you understand how edge flow works.…So I have this layer here called lowres_layer.…I'm going to go ahead and turn that off, and that will turn off my arm.…And let's go ahead and just create a simple polygonal surface.…
I'm going to do Create > Polygon Primitives > Torus.…Then I'm going to drag that torus out, and…let's go ahead and give it some shape here.…I have a zero radius here, so let's go ahead and bring up our section radius.…Now, I'm actually going to bring down my subdivisions.…So I'm going to bring my subdivisions in my axis to about 12.…And my subdivisions in height to let's say…about eight, so it's just a fairly lowres torus.…Now edge flow allows me to control how an edge loop blends with other edge loops.…
