Join Adam Crespi for an in-depth discussion in this video Testing the luminance and balancing the lighting, part of Maya: Rendering Interiors.
…When we're lighting a scene with a Dky portal node, it's important to get…all the different pieces in and hooked up properly before we even try a render.…Otherwise we're just wasting time waiting for an image.…What I've done then is to make sure that in each light it's…got a Sky portal node hooked into the light shader and Photon emitter.…This are here in the attribute editor, down in the shape node under mental ray.…Not all my front lights are controlled by MIA portal light two, on…the top, I've used areal lights that are set to discs for their emission.…
And these are all controlled by MIA portal light one.…On my camera I've got a photographic exposure and a physical sky.…This way the camera sees the sky as do the portal nodes.…They let light into the building where the lens perceives it.…I'll go into my camera and do a test render.…What I've also done in here is go…into the render settings, and into the indirect lighting.…I've taken the scale in both my global illumination and final gather…back to one and put the secondary diffuse balances back to zero.…
