Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Showing and hiding layers, part of Maya 8 Essential Training.
- [Instructor] As you start working with Maya your scenes…are going to start to get more and more complex…and as the complexity of your scenes increase,…the need to manage your scenes is also going to increase.…To facilitate this, Maya has a feature called Layers…which allows you to basically divide up your scene…into logical groups.…Much like Photoshop has layers,…allows you to create different groups of visual objects,…Maya can also do that with its 3D objects.…Layers has access through the channel box.…
In fact if you want to you can click on this button here…and on the bottom right hand corner you'll find…this little box here that says Layers.…Now if you notice there'll be two checkboxes here.…One is the Display layer which is what displays on screen.…The other is a Render layer which is what displays…to the renderer.…So for example you can render your background objects…differently than your foreground objects.…Can be very useful when dividing up your scene to render…or for special effects, that sort of thing.…
