Setting the project defaults

In this video we're going to talk a little bit about Maya's project folders. If we go up to File, Open Scene, this is the default installation path for Maya. It's under your username, documents, Maya, projects, default. Whenever you're starting a brand new project, it's best to set up a new project folder for Maya. To do this, we're going to go to File<Project Window. And at the very top, we're going to say New. And in this case, we can call it F1. Let's say Accept to that. Now when we do do a file open, you'll notice that it navigates to F1. If you're a premium member of Lynda.com, you can download the exercise files folder. I've done that and placed it onto my desktop, and now I need to point Maya to that location. To do this, let's go to File<Set Projects. Let's go to the desktop. Exercise files, chapter one, and let's say set to that. Now when I say File Open, it goes straight to chapter one scenes and there's my Maya file. So again, it's a good idea to get this done before we start any project, so that Maya can access all the source images and all the Maya files correctly.
