Learn about and understand the importance of transformations within Maya 2017. In this video, George takes a look at ways to reset and freeze transformations within Maya. Freezing transformations leaves the object in place while resetting all transformation attributes to zero. Resetting transformations realigns the object.
- [Voiceover] Now I want to talk a little bit about reset…transformations and freeze transformations.…And these are two very handy tools that you'll use…as you work with Maya.…Now the first one is Reset Transformation.…So basically all that does is resets the transformations…to a zero, or a neutral, state.…So, here I have this car and if we look at it, right now,…all my translations rotations are at zero.…And all my scales are at one.…So this is kind of the default state for this car.…
Now, if I want, I can hit my Move key and move my car…around and you can see how the numbers…are changing here in translation.…If I rotate it, I can rotate it as well,…or I could scale it however I want.…Now I've got all of these different numbers here…and that just represents where the car is at that moment…relative to where we started.…Now let's say I wanted to get this car back…to that original state.…Now I could undo my way out of this but if I went off…and did something else and came back to this…I'd have to undo my way through all the other stuff…

7/25/2016It starts with the basics of selecting and manipulating objects and organizing scenes, as you learn the interface and explore Maya's features. Author George Maestri then takes you through polygonal modeling, creating and refining meshes, sculpting, and NURBS modeling. Once you understand modeling, George will show how to create and apply materials to surfaces—adding color, texture, and reflectivity. He'll then integrate cameras, lighting, and depth-of-field effects into the rendering process, using the built-in software renderer, mental ray, and the new Arnold for Maya renderer. Last but not least, he'll show how to add movement and life to your work with Maya's animation tools.
