Join David Mattingly for an in-depth discussion in this video Rendering out the moving background, part of Digital Matte Painting 5: Camera Projection in Maya.
…We're almost ready to render this moving background out for use in Maya.…But there's one area of the plate we need to patch.…The hill is still partially showing up on the background, and that'll…become a problem when we move the camera in the Camera Projection.…Basically, you'll see this bit of hill projected…onto the water plate when the camera moves.…So, we need to patch it out and extend some of this water from…the plate behind it.…To get all of the layers in one…patch, select all the layers and Pre-compose them.…
Name the Pre-comp, Water Patch.…Make sure Move All Attributes Into the New Composition is checked.…Then duplicate the comp, and on the top comp add a mask.…Select the first option in the pen tool drop-down and…draw an oval covering the side of the hill, but…not getting any of the white caps down in the surf.…Then we want to soften it.…Set the mask feather to 10 pixels.…Scoot that whole top layer over to cover up the edge of the hill.…
Now when you move the camera you'll have a clean section of water behind the hill.…
