Learn how to direct audience attention with distance blur.
- [Narrator] Arnold accurately simulates camera optics,…such as depth of field or bokeh.…In this close up shot, we can direct…viewer attention by de-focusing…the foreground or background.…In this demo, we'll animate a rack-focus effect…using the Arnold camera attributes.…Let's first do a baseline draft render…with no depth of field applied.…Open up the Arnold RenderView.…When that first render completes,…let's store it as a Snapshot.…
Now let's go to the camera attributes.…In the Viewport panel menu…choose View,…Camera Attribute Editor,…and in the Attribute Editor,…scroll down a bit to the Arnold section,…in the camera Shape node.…And we come to the depth of field section.…We can enable DOF, or depth of field,…but we won't see any change yet…because the aperture size is set to zero.…This is the size of the iris…that allows light into the virtual camera.…
Larger values will produce more blur.…To get a physically accurate value,…we want it to be in the realm of millimeters,…and my current system of units is centimeters.…
