Rendering on the GPU

- [Instructor] To accelerate rendering, we can use GPU, or Graphics Processor Unit rendering. This will only apply if you have Nvidia hardware in your computer. If your graphics hardware is AMD, or Intel, or any other brand, then you will not be able to take advantage of the GPU rendering in Arnold, but if you do have Nvidia hardware, then you will probably want to atleast experiment with GPU rendering, because it can speed up the render process by a factor of 10 or more, and that is very significant. The first thing you'll want to do, if you've never rendered on the GPU before, is to pre-populate the GPU cache. What this does is store some data on your hard drive so that the GPU rendering will start more quickly every time you execute a GPU render. In the main menu, go up to Arnold, utilities, within here you'll see pre-populate GPU cache, and this dialogue may take 10 or 15 minutes to run if you've never run it…
