Refining with the Connect tool
Yet another way that we can refine a mesh is using the Connect Tool. I've got my object selected, I'll go ahead and click the Connect button. Notice that I do not have the modeling tool kit active. Go ahead and click Connect. And now I simply select a component, and, let's say I select this edge here, click on it. And you'll see a preview of the operation we're about to perform. When I press the Enter key, those edges are created, but notice curiously that I've been dropped out of modeling toolkit mode. It's been deactivated. So to prevent that happening, what I'll do is I'll undo a couple of times and just make sure that the modeling toolkit is activated from this button before issuing the connect tool. Just so that Maya doesn't drop me back out of the modeling toolkit. Now, you'll see if I just click on a single edge, then what I get, actually, is a preview of an entire edge loop connected.
