- [Instructor] Modeling with patches usually means taking a curve or multiple curves and turning that into a surface. Now there are many ways to do this. Let's take a look at some of the more popular methods. The first method we're going to take a look at is called a revolve or a lathe. And what this does is it basically takes a shape and it revolves it around an axis to create a surface. Here I have a simple shape, and if I revolve that or lathe it, you can see that I can create a bell shape. Now this operation basically just takes that shape and it twists it around an axis to create the surface. As you can see, we're just adding additional dimensions. Another common way is to use multiple curves to create a surface. Here I have three curves, and these can be combined to create a surface using what's called a loft.
