Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Mirroring geometry, part of Maya 2015 Essential Training.
…Many of the models that we encounter will be symmetrical.…Now typically, when you're modelling a symmetrical model you only need…to model half of it and then the other half follow along.…Now we can do this using the Maya modeling tool,…such as reflection, in the move and rotate and scale tools.…But we also can use the mirror tools in Maya to add to our tool kit.…So here I have a simple model here, and I've been modeling him in halves.…So basically he's split in half, and I've…got him basically aligned along this center line.…
Now if I want to create a second half to him, I can use the mirror tools.…Now before we do this, you want to make…sure that this inside edge is pretty much flat.…Now one of the ways that I do that is…I select all the vertices on the inside edge here.…And then just scale them down in the direction that I'm going…to mirror them and that way it kind of flattens them out.…So, I can then select my model and go Mesh > Mirror > Geometry.…Now let's take a look at some of the options here.…
Now the options are the mirror direction X, Y, or Z.…
